Adult autism assessment in Ireland: the public route is changing

Irish guidance is in transition. An older HSE page, last reviewed in October 2024, says adult autism assessment is not provided by the HSE. On 26 May 2026, the HSE launched a protocol that includes adult self-referral, with regional implementation due to begin in Quarter 3 2026.
If considering a private assessment
- Confirm who is responsible for the conclusion and report.
- Verify the exact qualifications, PSI Chartered Member status or other professional status claimed. Do not treat “PSI member” as CORU registration.
- Ask about interviews, developmental history, tools, feedback and the complete fee.
- Ask the intended recipient what report it currently requires.
- Confirm current appointment and report dates directly.
